Muscle Man Wyatt

Wyatt is kind of obsessed with his muscles. He likes working the pull-up bar multiple times throughout the day and he definitely likes flexing! I guess if my arms looked that ripped too, I might show them off or be a little more motivated to keep them looking good! 

I guess gymnastics does a body good!

Sick Wyatt

We have never been sick on a birthday, but I guess there is a first time for everything! Wyatt woke up sick as could be this morning. I thought he was off the day before, but I chocked it up to three late nights in a row plus daylight savings time. We went to see the Lego Batman Movie, and as he sat on my lap for part of it, I thought he felt warm. But we got home, he went off to play and seemed fine after that. That is, until 4:30am when he ran into my room gasping for breath while coughing and I could tell his fever was intense. 

Unfortunately, we couldn't get in to the dr. til 2:00 that day, so he layed low and we kept up with the ibuprofen and breathing treatments. I just swore up and down it was pneumonia again. When we got to the dr, they immediately thought it was flu. So they swabbed him for A and B, and 30 minutes later came back and said Negative. So they checked his lungs for pneumonia and said Negative. She felt around his face, neck, and stomach so they swabbed him for strep and said Positive! Poor baby had a horrible case of strep! He's never had that before! Since he was so sick, they suggested giving him an antibiotic injection, as opposed to the standard oral antibiotics for 10 days. I'm so glad he chose that option because we knew he would start feeling better in no time!!! I even made the call to cancel their birthday party for tomorrow and they were both so upset! Luckily I have it rescheduled for next Monday, so we should be ready to go by then!!

This little guy just made my heart ache seeing him so sick. During our two hour visit to the doctor, he fell asleep on the bed two different times. I just cradled him and kissed him and wished these yucky germs away! 

UPDATE: Today, on their birthday, he is feeling SO much better! He has said numerous times that he is "so thankful he got a shot in the butt!" You'll be good as new in no time my little buddy!!

No More Thumbsucking

I can't believe this, but I will never see this again. My little Wyatt boy gave up sucking his thumb! I mean, he is almost 7 and this should've happened long ago! But how he sucked his thumb ever had an impact on his teeth, so I never felt the urge to really push it.  But is it wrong to say that I kind of miss it? Because I do! I feel like it was the last thing that was keeping him "little."

His thumb sucking kind of evolved over the years. It went from just when he would see his lovey to doing it in the car without his lovey, to pretty much just anytime- other than anywhere in public! Even the hand he used to suck his thumb changed off and on. Sometime around age three he had a "preferred thumb" and an "emergency thumb." I think he used it as a sun-shield in the car because he held his fingers up to his eyes. It really was a multi-purpose tool ;-)

Since he's stopped sucking his thumb, we've definitely seen him a little less snuggly and a little more "grown-up" acting. I guess it really was the one thing that was keeping him "little." 

This whole stop-sucking-your-thumb talk came up because he still hasn't lost any teeth yet. We told him that as soon as one of his teeth falls out, he has to stop sucking his thumb. We told him it was probably better to try and stop now as opposed to waiting. We thought it might be a long process. So one day, we were at Ikea and he saw this cool loft bed and wanted it so badly. So Levi told him that whenever he stopped sucking his thumb, that could be his reward because we knew it was going to be something difficult for him to do. We expected it to take a few months. Well, we should've know better because this kid has a drive like none other. He sets his mind to something and it gets accomplished. So within a bout 2 weeks, it was a done deal. He stopped sucking his thumb. He even went on a road trip and didn't suck his thumb one time! So he earned his bed (another post!) and he couldn't be more proud of himself! He does say from time to time that he misses sucking his thumb and he wishes he could do it again! But to be honest, I know I will crave him crawling into my lap and snuggling in with his thumb in his mouth! The baby days of my little baby are all gone!

A Swimming Wyatt

The time has finally come that we have a Swimming Wyatt at our house!!! Wyatt has always loved the pool- from the shallow end, with his life jacket on, and his face dry!! Water has always been a little terrifying to him. Even showers were difficult for quite some time! But after last summer, when Mimi told him we could take a trip to Great Wolf Lodge if he learned how to swim and jump in the pool without being scared of getting his face wet- his wheels were turning. He tested the waters initially this summer little by little.  Jumping off the step into the shallow end. Putting googles on and quickly getting his face wet. Each day he seemed to get a little bit more brave!! And by mid-June, he was jumping off the deep end and swimming to the ladder. Going down the slide without a life jacket.  Diving for diving sticks. He's a full-fledged swimmer now!!!! And its AWESOME!!!!! Watching him get more and more confident each day is just so amazing to watch! To know that he can join Bub and his cousins down in the deep end just makes me so happy!!

Wyatt, the @ Home Gymnast

Wyatt just can't get enough gymnastics in his life!! He just flips and jumps and hangs on just about anything he can find in the house!

After we feared a piece of furniture would topple him, we got out the pull up bar, which he takes advantage of quite often!!!

Straddle press handstands are his favorite!! (This was a screenshot of a video) He just moves too fast!

I guess all the work at home is paying off at the 2 hours a week he's at the gym! He's rocking it out there!!

Wyatt's Last Day of PreK

Wyatt's an old pro when it comes to preschool- three years strong!!! But how lucky we've been for him to learn and grown in such wonderful, encouraging environments! But it is definitely time for this kid to move on to Kindergarten, although if he had his way, he's move on to 2nd grade with Grant (and I'm pretty sure he'd hold his own!)

His last day of school consisted of a little program, followed by an Ice Cream Social. I will surely miss their sweet little songs that come along with preschool! He is always so "in the zone" when he's up there singing his songs! Sweet boy!! It was a great time celebrating such a momentous milestone!

Not a doubt in my mind that Wyatt will do amazing things in his life! He is smart, responsible, kind, and a great leader!! I pray that as he moves on to big school, he will walk confidently and proud of the boy God made him to be! We sure are proud of him!!

Snuggling Thumb Sucker

Wyatt is 6 years old and loves to snuggle just as much now as he did when he was a newborn! He still fits so perfectly on the shoulder, or lap, or in my arms. His snuggles are just so precious, because he usually whispers sweet things like, "I just love you so much" or "You're the best mommy." I just can't get enough of this sweet little guy!

Wyatt's First Gymnastics Meet

Wyatt has been enthralled with gymnastics ever since he started 1.5 years ago. In August, he moved from Blue Valley Rec to 360 and his love for gymnastics has grown even more! He literally gymnastics all over the house! That's what we like to call it :) The world is his gym! I love it!! Initially, Coach Eric said the three littlest boys on the team (Wyatt being the youngest) were going to start competing in March, but they all developed and honed their skills much quicker than he imagined, so he was ready for them to start competing in January. We had gone to a meet in November just to kind of watch and see what happens, so that would hopefully decrease the "newness" of what a gymnastics meet is all about. So when January's meet rolled around, Wyatt had an idea of what to expect, although he still was quite nervous. Moreso because he just wanted to get a perfect score and he was worried he wouldn't. Silly boy! I told him nobody would get a perfect score, so it didn't matter! Just do your best little buddy!! And that was exactly what he did!!!! He was so focused, never cracked a smile! He sat on the chair between events and just waited his turn. I imagine he was probably going through the routines in his head. He was just so darn cute to watch!

Look at that team of little cuties! They went in height order, Wyatt being the shortest, which meant he went last on each even. The oldest boy on his team is 12, with Wyatt bringing up the rear at age 5.

 First up, pommel horse and mushroom.

 Next, parallel bars.

 Then, high bar. On this event, he actually was swinging and lost his grip and fell. His coach caught him and there was a fluffy mat under him, so he didn't get hurt. He popped right back up on the bar and finished his routine.

 And finally, vault. Which I didn't get any pictures of, but you can see the set up for it right behind the picture of him on the high bar.

Then it was time for the awards ceremony. We knew he would be judged against the other 5 year olds in this meet. It's usually 5 and  year olds, but since this was such a large meet, they had to break them up. But that was good for his first time since it lessened how many kids he was up against. He wound up placing 2nd, and was so excited!! He did tell me afterwards though, "I just imagined myself standing up there on the #1 spot though!" Later, we found out that if he hadn't fallen off the high bar- which is a full point deduction, he would've taken first! But we were so darn proud of him!! He really did do his absolute best and watching him was so AMAZING!!! Honestly, I can't remember the last time I was that nervous for anything!!! Butterflies like I hadn't felt in a LONG time!!

 Their whole team took 1st place and were soooooo thrilled!!
