We got a little unexpected snow this afternoon! We had a chance of flurries so when the flurries began, we didn't expect it to last long. But pretty soon, those flurries turned to flakes, and those flakes, doubled in size and before we knew it, we were in a full blown snow storm. And it was gorgeous!!!! When all said and done, we had about 2-3" of fluffy white snow!! A beautiful wintery day!

White Christmas!!!!
You could wish and hope all year long and even sing the song in your head, but there is nothing as magical as a White Christmas!!!!! We haven't had a flake of snow all season and as the buzz of a white Christmas began a week before, we were all wishing and hoping that we would get a tiny Christmas miracle!!!! AND WE DID!!!! It snowed overnight, so when Grant ran into our room at 7:00 to yell, "SANTA CAME," he also said, "AND IT SNOWED!!!!" We'd already peeked out our bedroom window and saw that it had, I was so excited for them to experience the joy of, not only seeing what Santa brought, but also seeing a white Christmas! You know, its the little things in life!!
So after seeing what Santa brought, opening daddy's presents and our stockings, the boys threw on my boots and took a little stomp around!!!
We were leaving for Western Kansas in a few hours, so I was bustling around preparing for us to leave and Levi was outside shoveling the driveway, so I told the boys they could go out and play in the snow! I didn't have to tell them twice :) But goodness, it was soooooo cold!
As I was in the kitchen, I was looking out the window and realized I didn't know where they were and didn't hear Levi shoveling anymore! I looked out the other window towards the backyard and saw some people walking down the sidewalk heading out to sled, and I thought, "Awww, there's some kids off to sled with their dad!" Then I realized those people belonged to me!! Levi took them to the big hill at the airport to sled! But gosh darn, it was so cold, they only made a few runs before walking back home! But sure was fun while it lasted!!!
Now, they are hoping for at least one BIG snow, now that winter has officially arrived!!!

The One Snowy Day
This winter has been weird. While we've had some cold spells, it hasn't been unbearably cold. And while a super huge snow would be awesome- just one - its been nice to not have to mess with it!! We did get one snowy day and of course the boys had to go out and play! It was melted and gone by the next day but they had fun while it lasted!

Snowball Fight
We got to out the farm late afternoon Christmas Eve and we were so excited to see a little bit of snow as we got closer and closer to Grinnell. The boys were hoping there would be some left around Grandma and Grandpa's house! We got out of the car, said hello, and the boys immediately got their boots and snow gear on! They didn't want to risk it melting in the first 5 minutes we were there!
It wasn't a whole lot of snow left, but it was just the right amount for a little snowball fight!

Snow Fortress
Wyatt has been waiting all winter long for a big enough snow to make a snow fortress. I'm not quite sure where that idea came from, or what he was really expecting a snow fortress to look like, but I sure did my best with what we had! Our amazing neighbors plowed our driveway the morning of our "big" snow. John has an attachment on his mower that turns it into a plow, so we had some big piles of snow at the end of the driveway. As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of when I was little and my dad would use the snow blower and we'd have big piles that ran the length of our driveway. Those were the perfect places to make snow forts, or our personal favorite- snow chairs! So I told the boys that THIS was the perfect spot for a snow fortress and Wyatt's eyes lit up!!!
It's hard work I tell ya!! I was so sweaty and tired, I knew I didn't even need to do my workout for the day because I just did it!! But I think we have some pretty cool fortresses to show for it!
And of course, it was all followed by some hot chocolate!!!
Ok, now time for spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, now time for spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We Went Sledding!!
We've been waiting ALL winter long to have a good snow to play in! We had a decent amount right after Levi came home for Christmas, and we made and awesome snowman and had a great snowball fight. But the snow melted so quickly, we didn't have time for anything else. So everyday since then, we've been waiting and waiting for more snow!
Well, we finally had a measurable amount AND it wasn't single digit temps so we went out to play!! After school and lunch, we all got changed and headed out to try sledding. We thought of a few spots in our yard that could potentially make for some good sledding and they turned out the be the perfect spots!! We had so much fun!! The boys giggled and screamed the whole way down!! The only thing that would've made it better is if we had two sleds!!! But once they learned going down together was even more fun, that problem was solved pretty quickly!!!!
I think its safe to say now that we have this"big" snow under our belts, that we are ready for spring!!!

Itty Bitty Snow
January has, for the most part, been a very frigid month!! Single digit temps, negative wind chills. So cold we've even driven to school! Gasp!! It snowed on January 3rd, maybe 2" or so, nothing crazy. But pretty!!
But because it was so cold, we never got to play in it. Until, January 15th! We finally got a break in the weather, I'm talking 50's, so we headed outside to play! Of course, the boys immediately headed to the itty bitty snow patch that was left! And they had 1.5 hrs worth of fun!!! And when I say itty bitty, I do mean it...
Like Grant's pajama pants?? It's rare if he's NOT wearing pajamas, even in the snow!!
Grant made this itty bitty snowman from the itty bitty snow! And then he used it to "wash" the back door window!
And I must highlight their racoon hats!! They are pretty awesome!
We are still holding out that we will get a BIG GIANT snow one of these days! But until then, we are enjoying these beautiful 50 degree temps!!! So we can't complain!!
