Adventure Landing, Part II

...and more fun!!

Wyatt actually hit a 1000 ticket jackpot and the machine ran out of tickets!! By lunchtime, we had SO many tickets, they needed their own seat at lunch....

By 3:00, we decided to cash out our tickets- soooo many prizes- and head to the airport to ride the SkyLink around since the boys had never really experienced a real airport. It was a fun time riding around and then stopping for lunch in the International Terminal to check out the BIG planes! Dallas is a pretty cool airport, we couldv'e just spent our 1 day vacation there!!
And Daddy even got to sit with us on the plane- we thought he'd have to sit in a jumpseat since the flight was full, but we got one extra spot so he got to sit with the boys and show them some cool things only pilots know!!
It was such a fun little vacation and makes us wonder where we want to travel next??

Adventure Landing, Part I

It was a big birthday year for Grant- I mean, you only turn double-digits one time- so we had to celebrate in a big way! Also, a Spring Break birthday has always called for a trip!! But now that we are actually able to travel easily, we jumped at the chance. Once we finally decided on Dallas, we decided to figure out what our activity of the day would be. We settled on Adventure Landing- an arcade/amusement park place. Go-Carts, mini-golf, laser tag, bumper boats, arcade- what more could we need?? After breakfast at the hotel, we got to Adventure Landing as soon as it opened. Good thing too because it got crowded fast!! But getting there early allowed us to do a round of mini golf and a round of go carts without waiting in any lines! We spent all day there and had LOTS of fun....

March 15, 2018

We spent the night at Aunt Sara's on the night of the 14th, so my mom could drive us to the airport (she was staying at their house while they were on vacation). So we woke up and sang Happy Birthday and had donuts!! We got our KU gear on (Big 12 tournament was starting!) and we headed off to the airport to hop a flight to Dallas to meet up with Daddy!

The boys hadn't been on a plane since December 2011, so neither of them could remember anything about airports or airplanes and they were SO excited!!!! We had to get on the standby list, and it was Spring Break, so we weren't sure how it was all going to work out. We were on the list for the 12:30 flight, but as we were waiting to board, it didn't look good- no room! I kept prepping the boys that we may not get on, and once we got the news that we didn't, they were definitely bummed! But we got our list for the nest flight and headed down to terminal to find some lunch! Perfect timing too, because the KU game was just tipping off!
We found out we were going to get on the next flight, and it worked out SO great because we boarded just after KU won the game!! Phew!! Time to fly!!
The boys were so excited sitting down and getting their seats prepped. They looked out the window, checked what was in their seat pocket, and listened to the safety video intently. They were smiling so big during takeoff!!! They both had downloaded a movie on Netflix and just chilled the whole way there! They absolutely loved flying!!!

And as soon as we walked off the plane, Daddy was waiting for us at the gate!! We picked up our rental car, checked into our hotel, and headed off to dinner. And we found a Moe's!!!!!!!!!!!! Such a great way to cap off their birthday day!!!
We ended the night with a little swimming at the hotel pool, but these guys are definitely not used to swimming at public pools, so they didn't last long. But it was time for bed because we had a big Adventure planned for the next day!

Growing Up!

I always love a good comparison picture, which is why I take their pictures every year on a white background, so I can see their ever changing faces year to year!!!

Wyatt @ 8 Years Old

My baby boy is 8 years old!!! My teeny tiny Wyatt boy, who was no bigger than a TV remote, is now 8 years old!! I just don't know how!! My heart is full of mixed emotions as I watch you grow. Looking at you, I still see my sweet little toddler with his puppy dog eyes and yet I also see my little boy who is growing into the most amazing young man! It's hard on your old mom!
You have been such a gift to me Wyatt. You're like me in so many ways that is very easy to be your mom. I understand what makes you happy and what makes you sad. I know what you will like and what you won't. I know what aggravates you and what pleases you. It's like watching me as a child!  You know I like lots of snuggles from you, which you are still 110% willing to give me, and you always know the right words to say to put a smile on my face. We just get each other!
You're an awesome kid Wyatt! I had my doubts during those early years (those newborn- 18 month old days were AWFUL), but the pain and agony you put me through in those months have been replaced with joy and delight you bring me today! You are SO kind and SO selfless and you always put others first. You're a very obedient kid and always want to please me and everyone around you. Hurting other peoples feelings, even accidentally, is just not your thing! Oh how it hurts your heart! I pray everyday that God uses that soft heart of yours, and keeps in tender and devoted to spreading all that love thats in there!
School has been a bit of a challenge for you this year. It's year first year going all day long, which always stinks. No one likes to be in school all day, but you definitely don't!! (Can I just say I am SO glad you didn't have your first full day of school til you were 7 years old!!) You've been bored to tears many times during school, which stinks for you. I've heard you say, "I don't like school!" for the first time ever this year, and sadly we hear it often. You're just bored with the pace, bored with the content, and annoyed at first grade behavior (You've always been a little too mature for your age.) But your teacher loves you and you love being her example! You also got in to Mrs. Martel's class back in the fall, which has offered you some challenge and creativity that were desiring. You wish it was everyday, instead of twice a week, but you'll take what you can get!
Gymnastics has been amazing! You moved up to Level 5 at the beginning of the summer and I had my doubts that you were actually ready for that. But as of now, over halfway through meet season, you have proved me wrong! Holding your own on the podium at every meet!! You've got a lot of skills to learn still, but I'm amazed each and every practice at your strength and motivation to learn!! Basketball was also great this year! Your team was so fun and you boys were definitely one of the best teams in your league. You scored 4-6 points every game and have point guard written all over your face!!
When you have free time at home, which isn't too often, you definitely soak up as much playtime with your brother as you can. You two haven't been seeing eye to eye lately, as you're reached your limit with him calling the shots. You finally got up some backbone to tell him what YOU want to do, and it doesn't always go over well. So you're working it out- you both want to be together nonstop, but its just trying to find that compromise! But you guys love playing Legos, xbox, hatchimals/squinkies, Imaginext, army guys, riding scooters, making up random games outside, playing at the GWEN, and you're itching for our pool to open!!!
I am just in awe of what an incredible gift you are Wyatt. I am so thankful you are strong, kind, healthy, loving, and so compassionate! I pray God continues to use your sweet heart in a BIG way. I love you so very very much and I can't wait to see what this next year of life will bring! I bet there are great things in store for you!
I love you my Wyatt boy!!

Grant @ 10 Years Old

Well, here we are- double digits! Two WHOLE hands old!! I just can't believe it. I blinked and somehow my baby boy turned into a growing young man!! My goodness!!
Grant, you are an AWESOME kid!! I have a hard time describing you because sometimes I feel like there aren't the right words that can adequately sum you up! You are so unique and special- definitely one of a kind!! Your brain is always ON and the gears are always turning up something incredible!! For a 10 year old, your imagination is still fully powered! I'm constantly amazed at the games you come up with, or stories you write, or inventions you make. You dream so many dreams for yourself and I LOVE that! One minute you're talking about being a shark hunter when you grow up, the next minute you're talking about being a KU basketball player, and the next minute you're talking about building skyscrapers! And no doubt in my mind you can do ANYTHING if you put your mind to it!! One thing you always say is that you're going to do something that will change the world, and I don't doubt that for one second!!!
School has been going so great this year! You love your teacher, which helps tremendously with you're blasé attitude about most things regarding school. You say things like, "I had to sit through math class" or "I had to suffer through language arts." Most things involving school and homework is a chore. You do enjoy art projects and researching topics, but you still consider your favorite subjects to be lunch and recess ;-)
You had a great basketball season that just wrapped up and you improved SO much!! You loved playing defense best- you used your big body for sure!! You're already excited for next season. In the meantime, you've had a lot of interest in learning how to play an instrument and can't wait til 4th grade because you can do strings. You're ultimate goal is to play saxophone or some instrument in a marching band. I would totally love that!!
You've been very involved at church this year. You went from serving in the nursery to serving as a song leader in Kids Worship Jr. All the little kids love you so much! And so do the grown ups- they're always asking you to do this and that for them because they know you're game for anything!! I think they have big plans for you there at church, and it'll be neat to see you grow in that area!
You and Wyatt are still best buddies and love to pal around together! You rarely ask for friends to come play because you just enjoy the time you and Wyatt have together. You're still working on not being selfish and being the typical "bossy" older brother. Wyatt gets so frustrated with you sometimes, but hopefully you're working on it in your heart! You guys love playing Legos, Minecraft, scootering outside, Squinkies/Hatchimals, army guys, Imaginext, and then whatever imaginary games you play with guns in the backyard. I love your imaginary games!!! Our weeks are pretty busy with Wyatt's practices, small group, and the small amount of homework we have, so you are definitely craving summer where you guys have endless time to play!! ME TOO!
I am just so in awe that you're 10 years old now Grant.  You have had my heart wrapped around your little tiny finger before I ever met you and you always will. My big kid is growing up before my very eyes and I could not be more proud to be your mom. I'm so excited to watch you grow into this new stage of life. Don't get me wrong- I'm grieving the loss of your early years and how fast they truly went. I hope I am guiding your heart in the way the Lord has designed you to be. I pray endlessly that you remain a strong, healthy, kind, and loving boy and that you will be lead by the Lord in whatever you do! While I like to think I have control over you, God is the one who owns your heart and I pray that you are always open to hearing what He has to tell you.
Because Grant- I think it's something amazing!!!
I love you Grant!

Birthday Stats

GRANT
Weight: 82lbs (85th percentile)
Height: 54.5" (54th percentile)
You're wearing a size 10/12 in just about everything, 12 being the more ideal size. You're wearing a size 4.5 in shoes. I actually had to buy you men's sock to fit around your beefy calves. Somehow you gained about 14 pounds since you turned 9. I don't know if thats normal or not, but you went from a little fella to a young man within this year. Its CRAZY!! You're like a solid cement wall- your body is dense!!!

WYATT
Weight: 52lbs (30th percentile)
Height: 48" (17th percentile)
You're wearing a size 6/7 in most things. Some clothes you have are still 5's and some are 8's. Your shoes are a 13 or 1, depending on the brand. You're roughly the same size as Grant when he was turning 7! But your small stature lends itself well to being a good gymnast! You're like a little feather floating through the air! You always say you love being small. I love you being small too :)

Happy Birthday My Boys!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANT & WYATT!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!

We love you so very much our special special boys!!

Tomorrow's Your Birthday!!

AHHHH! Tomorrow, my little fellas turn another year older and I don't even know how because I'm pretty sure we just had your birthday two months ago! But here we are- one day away from Grant turning 10 and Wyatt turning 8. You guys are so amazing and watching you grow and learn is my absolute favorite thing in life, but I have to be honest when I say I'm sad you're as old as you are! I miss your toddlerhood and preschool-selves. Your baby bellies and tiny feet. Your baby teeth and mis-pronounced words. Your small bodies and little hands. I miss you being little. I yearn to go back to those days that I wished bedtime would just hurry up and come because I was exhausted and you guys were driving me crazy- YES, even those days I want to go back to!!! (Maybe just for a little bit at least!)
But tomorrow, you're one step closer to growing up, whether I like it or not!! So here's to me embracing your new ages and stages! I pray I can soak in all the greatness this next year has in store for us, because while I miss the little fellas you used to be, I CANNOT wait to see the young gentleman you are becoming!!!
I love you so much and can't wait to celebrate you both tomorrow!

Birthday with Friends!

We had a little impromptu birthday celebration with their buddies! Wyatt requested vanilla cupcakes and Grant requested brownies, and with us getting ready for our little trip to Dallas, there was no way we could eat all that (and stay fresh) so we asked our friends to come help us enjoy our birthday treats! It was a pretty day, so they were able to play on the GWEN and enjoy some cake and ice cream with us!

Birthday Pancakes!

One of our favorite birthday traditions is to enjoy birthday pancakes on the morning of their birthday! It usually works out just fine because their birthday has ALWAYS fallen over spring break, when were home and have stress-free lazy mornings! But this year, we weren't going to be at our house on their birthday! So we had our birthday pancakes on the 14th! Each year I have to make more and more pancakes!!

The night before, I worked so hard to put together their birthday presents- new Mongoose scooters. But I failed. I just couldn't get the brakes figured out!! So I had to give them a half-put together scooter and one still in the box! But they didn't mind- smiles all around regardless!!!

Birthday Day with Mimi

Two days before the actual birthday, the boys and I headed out for a fun day with Mimi. Mimi and PawPaw were staying at the VanAllen's while they were on a trip, so we actually had to GO somewhere to meet up with Mimi! We had the day planned for the boys, they just didn't know what we were going to do!!
The first stop was lunch at The Other Place. The boys would probably live off their mozzarella sticks if I gave them the option. (I might too, actually!) We ate and ate until we couldn't stuff another bite in our mouth, and then it was time to head on to the next surprise....Park Lanes!!

An afternoon of bowling and arcade. When we pulled up, we saw a few school buses and thought this plan might not work out- it was Spring Break after all- but we had some birthday luck on our side because one of the larger groups was leaving as we were walking in! The lanes were still pretty busy, so we decided to hit up the empty arcade first! They got their cards loaded up and were off to play. We had some major successes on the jackpot front- Grant hit a 1000 ticket jackpot, a 695 ticket jackpot, and Wyatt hit a 400 ticket jackpot!! SO MANY TICKETS (not to mention the 800+ tickets we had saved from the last time)!!!! Once their points were all used, we decided to go bowling, so they could think about what they wanted to do with their tickets.

We squeezed in two games of bowling during our allotted time. Everyone has their own unique bowling style :)

After our bowling was finished, we headed back over to the arcade so they could spend their 3500+ tickets- what??!?!?!?  It was a very tough decision, but Grant bought a magic 8 ball, and Wyatt bought a stuffed Jurassic Park T-rex and a taffy taffy, and they decided to save the rest of their tickets for the next time we go!!
It was a super fun pre-birthday celebration!! We love birthdays!!!!!
