The Broeckelman Bears

 I took the boys outside before church this morning to get a nice Easter picture. But they INSISTED on bringing their bears outside. Because, lately, Grant can't do anything without taking Cuddles along. And since Wyatt does everything Grant does, he now carts Teddy around too, and of course, Teddy Lovey. And while the pictures didn't turn out very Eastery, they sure are cute and I'm glad I let them bring their bears because it tells the story of them at the moment. Someday, they will look back at these pictures and think they look silly holding a teddy bear, but for now, those bears are two of the most important things in their lives and I want to always remember their sweet little hearts they have right now!

Happy Easter!!!

What a beautiful beautiful weekend it is to celebrate such a special day!! The boys seriously spent about 9 hours playing outside yesterday- it was fabulous!! We were planning on going to the early Easter church service, so I wasn't sure how easy it would be to drag to the boys out of bed this morning, but the thought of what the Easter Bunny brought put some spring in their step! They were very excited to come out and see their baskets filled with goodies!!! That Easter Bunny sure is generous! Inside the baskets were a chocolate bunny, a new t-shirt, Hex Bug, Easter book, stamps, stickers, chalk, paddle balls, shovel, and of course a little bit of candy!

 After rummaging through the baskets, it was time to find eggs! That Easter Bunny was smart and only hid the plastic eggs, since my kids are terrible at finding things, we sure wouldn't want a hard boiled egg lost in the living room! The Easter Bunny learned that lesson when I was a kid! Wyatt surprisingly found the most eggs. Probably because Grant was trying to lug Cuddles around and kept dropping him. But Cuddles had to get in on the action as well! The picture on the top left- Grant's nose was practically touching the orange egg and it still took me "hot hot hot hot getting colder, cold, cold, HOT HOT HOT" for him to find it. (Like father, like son!) Then we read Grant's book he got called, The Easter Story. And then Daddy read the gospel to them from the big Bible. It was a perfect Easter morning!

Coloring Easter Eggs

I'm always a huge fan of letting my eggs sit in the cups for as long as possible. My favorite is the blue. I would let that one sit for 30 minutes. But not my boys- nope. A short 5 second dip is all they would allow! Grant was a fan of dipping it in one cup for a few seconds, the dropping it in another cup. Oh the imagination on that boy!! He was hoping they would turn out "rainbow" colored, like a book we read. They really just turned a dirty looking, but whatever. He liked it! Cuddles came to enjoy the fun too, of course! Wyatt loved the green color, but he mostly just wanted to eat the eggs. I think the whole thing lasted MAYBE ten minutes! 

Maybe someday my boys will appreciate the art of soaking their egg to get the most vibrant color....or maybe not!

Easter Egg Lunch Hunt

I saw this idea on Pinterest almost two years ago, and tried it out last year and since it was a HUGE success,  we had to do it again this year!

After a quick trip to the grocery store this morning, I got to working on their special lunch. I told the boys not to come into the kitchen until it was all ready! They knew what we were doing, but I didn't want them to see what I was fixing. As soon as it was all prepared, I had them come out of the playroom. Apparently, they had been "lifting weights" (tinker toys), hence them being shirtless. Oh my life with boys! 

They took off searching every inch of the living room for the eggs. I told them to find whatever color egss they wanted too (although I made two sets, that way no one got 4 eggs of grapes and no goldfish). When they thought they found them all, we sorted them into the cartons to see what we were missing. They got them all and couldn't wait to start eating!

Inside the eggs were: cereal, raisins, cheese cubes, PBJ dots, grapes, fruit snacks, and one chocolate egg. Grant ate everything from every egg. Wyatt ate almost everything! Grant said numerous times today, "Thanks for making such a special lunch for us Mom. We REALLY loved it!" Honestly, I loved it too!!

Lego Birthday Celebration, Part II

The morning of the party was cold. And windy. I got a little worried everyone was going to be stuck inside! But we must have had some birthday luck on our side, because while it was still windy, it warmed up pretty nicely!! As everyone showed up, the kids enjoyed the playroom and ventured outside to the clubhouse. The parents chatted and snacked! Just as I was hoping!!! 

We got the boys ready to do cake! They LOVED their candles and everyone singing. Grant's always been a little unsure of what to do while being sung to, and he usually hasn't been too fond of candles either. He must really be growing up, because neither bothered him! They soaked in each second!! (Thanks Lori for taking these pictures for me!!)

After cake, we destroyed unwrapped their presents. I felt terrible seeing how many gifts people brought for them! Lots of Legos, Imaginext, Switch N Go Dinos, Rescue Bots, crafts, outside toys, Hex Bugs, beach towels, Pop the Pig, playdoh- they got spoiled for sure!! They definitely didn't need what they got, but we are so thankful and appreciative!! (Thank you cards in the still in the works!!). And then it was time for more playing! I think it was a successful party! I know I had a great time, and based on the looks of the playroom, the kids had a great time too!!

A Boy and His Bear

Cuddles is Grant's best friend. Lately, Grant's been referring to himself as Cuddles "Daddy." He's been wanting to take Cuddles EVERYWHERE, and when he's at school, he asks if I can "babysit" Cuddles and he gives me very specific directions on what to do with him. It's so stinkin cute!! So today, Cuddles rode along in the car while we went to Grant's preschool party. On our way home from the party, we decided on a spontaneous park picnic and Grant was overjoyed to show Cuddles around the park! Those two did it all!! I had a smile on my face the WHOLE time!

Grant took him on the slide of death super long slide, he pushed in him the swing many many many times, he played with him on the equipment, he did the monkey bars. Cuddles got to do it all!!

Oh, how I love that sweet boy of mine!!!

Preschool Easter Party

Grant and his class celebrated Easter today at school! I walked into hear Ms. Terry retelling to Easter story. She is so animated while speaking, the kids just hang on her every word! Even Wyatt sat still and listened!!  They sang the most adorable songs, I wish I had recorded every single one of them! I seriously love love love his preschool!!! After the stories and songs, it was time for treats!

 They did the retelling of Palm Sunday. All the kids waved palms and said, "Hosana! Hosana! Blessed be the King!" and then they threw their palms on the road. Ms. Terry showed the kids how Jesus carried His cross and all the suffering He endured. And then she spoke about how He was risen out of the tomb!

Someone had made Resurrection Rolls, where you bake a roll with a marshmallow inside, so as it bakes, the roll be comes hollow. Ms. Terry told the kids to open their roll to see if Jesus was inside. Grant said, "Nope, He's risen!"  Avri had to check to see if Jesus was in Grant's roll...

 Then it was time for BINGO!! Its probably not a coincidence these two sat by each other! :) Then it was time to head outside for the Easter Egg hunt!! Each kid was allowed to find 5 eggs! Grant counted his along the way!

So, what did Wyatt do while we were at preschool?? He jumped in on the fun as well! He thinks hes just one of the big kids!!

It was a wonderful party on a perfect day!! I am so so so so thankful we found this preschool for our boys. They love it, I love it, we all love it!! 

March Artwork

 I was happy to see lots of artwork brought home this month! After our lousy February preschool attendance  we were definitely lacking some new works of art! I'd say we got our fill this month though! Alot of the pieces are done during curriculum time as well, but I just love anything my little boys' hands touch!! I love capturing his handwriting (which is still rather lacking) and see how he matures over time! How scribbly his coloring is, or how imperfect his cut lines are! I just love every imperfection! 

There were a lot of Easter crafts, and I'm not talking bunnies and eggs. Although there were those too, but I guess Grant didn't go to school on those project days. We got alot of the Bible work they did, and hearing him retell those sweet stories just makes me smile!

 A racoon, the retelling of Palm Sunday, Recycling page (don't you just love Grant's N that has 6 humps?!), a pizza, and a number coloring page (again, love his name at the top!)

A robot, a lion, a basket with five loaves of bread and two fish from the story Jesus Feeds the 5000, a dot-to-dot of a cross where Grant added Jesus to the middle (happy to see this since he NEVER draws people), and his Easter grass he planted!

And these two works of art were done at Ms. Wendy's, his occupational therapist. More on that in another post, but I just thought they were cute!

All in all, it was a festive, artsy month, and I'm so happy we have new beauties to display in our playroom!!

Easter Centers

Today was techinically our last day of Spring Break since Grant doesn't have school Mondays. Thank goodness because I have a yucky cold so it was great to have no where to be! But, that means I have two kids with idle hands, and you know what that means!! Since this is our one and only non-busy day this week, I thought it was the perfect day for Easter activities! After a morning of catching up on the blog and playing playdoh, we started off with a painting project. This one is under wraps though, until they are received by some loved ones in the mail!

After lunch and rest time, we did centers. I took naptime to prepare lots of center activities. Alot of them I had prepared from last year, but I also got some new things for this year. Most of them were fine motor related, as well as focusing on counting, color recognition, patterning, and number recognition.

The top tray are sticky foam eggs. I stuck the first four on and they had to finish the patterns. 

The bottom tray are count and clip cards. It was so cute how Grant took Wyatt's finger and helped him count with one-to-one correspondence! Love those precious moments!

 The top tray was grabbing the eggs by the strings with clothes pins and laying them in the space provided. Clothespins are great tools for fine motor work! 

The middle tray was color matching tiny plastic eggs, using their grab-nabbers. Another fine motor skill activity!

The bottom activity was probably their favorite- digging through Easter grass to find all the letters from the foam puzzle. The letters were a light red, yellow, and green- the exact green as the grass so it was kind of tricky to find them all!! They LOVED this!

 The top tray were filling Easter baskets counting by twos. They had to grab two things at a time and count by twos to fill their baskets to the number on the basket. This was tricky for Wyatt, as he knows to count by 2s to twenty, but physically doing it was a little harder. Good thing Grant was a good leader! 

The bottom tray was a number order puzzle. They both worked great together on this one. I think I should do an 11-20 for Grant though! 

The top tray was a visual discrimination and fine motor activity. I gave them all the egg pieces and they had to make the color combinations on the cards. Good teamwork needed here for sure!

The bottom tray was a nesting egg activity. There were 4 sizes of eggs in 4 colors. They had to nest the eggs according to size. Took Wyatt a few minutes to figure out the nesting idea, but after I walked him through the first egg, he got the hang of it the second egg and did it by himself. 

I LOVE being able to enjoy these activities with my kiddos. The teacher in me feels really likes they enjoy working on these activities together....well, the mom in me does too!!

Old Papa's Farm

One of my very favorite memories from my childhood is when we would spend the day at my Grandma and Grandpa's farm with my cousins. Those really were some of the best days of my life! To be carefree, surrounded by loving family, and acres of farm to explore- there really isn't much more a kid could need! I'm hoping my boys are already creating these memories in their hearts and will continue to for many more years to come! (See THIS post and THIS post about other farm visits!)

It's a little bit different now that my Grandma has to watch us from Heaven, as opposed to the back window, but you still get the same feeling when you drive down the dirt road and pull through the gate into their long, windy driveway. 

This weekend, as the boys and I left Kansas City, we stopped by Old Papa's farm to visit. The weather was cold, wet, and pretty yucky, so I knew there wouldnt be any exploring going on in this visit. Just a friendly chat with Old Papa. (And numerous spins by the boys in Gigi's bamboo chairs- another favorite memory!).

 This is the view when you first turn onto their drveway. There used to be a framed out gate that no longer stands, but this rock will probably always be there!

And new traditions to make- visiting the cemetery. I found this little frog light that I know will shine to Heaven. I know my Grandma loves it!! And driving down the driveway- I suppose its a tradition I used to do as well, but now my boys get to partake too!!

I'm hoping to make another trip out there this spring when the weather is nice and the boys can run around with their cousins!! Here's to years and years of memories to come!

SB 2K13

SB 2K13. That's what all the cool kids called it this year- Spring Break 2013. I remember the days of planning all the parties, the getaways, the cool and super fun things we would do for Spring Break. We'd start planning during Fall Break! Now that I'm a stay-at-home mom, who has only one kid in school, part time, Spring Break wasn't even on my radar. What was- a Lego Birthday party for my boys. I hadn't even thought past that. And then I realized- I don't want to stay in in Enid for an ENTIRE week with NOTHING to do!! We are outta here! And that's when a trip to Kansas City was made. Not glamorous compared to what most other people did (ahem, my sisters family's Disney Cruise!), but a change in scenery was all we needed! 

We hadn't been to Kansas City since Christmas, and even then we didn't get to go do anything extra since we spent our time celebrating with family.  I had friends to see, babies to meet, shopping to do, and good food to eat!! I accomplished it all too, well just about!

Here's a snapshot of our 5 days in Kansas!

We ate at Dairy Queen on the way there, gobbling up a Starkist, of course! We went to Little Monkey Bizness! I did some shopping at Carters, Kohls, and Nordstrom Rack (and of course, bought only for the boys and nothing for me. Typical. Pathetic.). We made a mess in Mimi's living room, but loved every second! I visited with Carly and baby Colin and Christine and baby Ace. The boys went to the the library and the mall with Mimi- twice! We ate dinner at Fritz's! We ate at Moe's (and Kona with Chris and Abbye, and Bo Lings, and Jose Peppers with my friends, and Mr. Goodcents, and Winsteads with Bebe, Stone Canyon with Mimi, Chris, and Aunt Donna). I filled out my bracket. 

We didn't sleep a lot, but we sure ate a lot and played a lot, so it sounds like we had all the makings for a good Spring Break. Tomorrow, its back to reality!

Meeting Miss Collins

My dear sister-in-law, Summer, had her second baby January 31, 2013. When he first baby, Piper, was born, I wasn't able to meet her until she was already 4 months old. Made me so sad! So when I heard that the Harris bunch was going to make it to the boys' birthday party, I couldn't wait!! I wanted to snuggle little miss Collins as quickly as I could!! It turns out, I wasn't the only one who wanted to snuggle her!

She is such a little doll baby and I could just snuggle her all day long! So happy we live closer right now to enjoy these moments!!

Lego Birthday Celebration, Part I

 The boys had been planning a Lego birthday party since before Christmas! My head immediately started spinning with all the fun ideas we could do! This was the first time the boys wanted a singular theme, instead of having their own. I was excited about that, but also the fact that I could get really creative with this theme!

It all started with the invitation that I had a super fun time creating! I think they turned out super fun (excuse the crappy photos that are displaying my wonderful work of art- poor lighting!).  My dear friend, Amy, made them their awesome custom Lego birthday shirts!

I spent the entire months of January and February pinning ideas and spinning my brain. I knew we would have a lot of people, and lots of little kids, so too many decorations and too many games was not a good idea. Instead, we hoped that the weather would be nice so the kids could enjoy the clubhouse and just have fun in the playroom. In the end, that is exactly what happened! Simple decorations, simple activities were perfect!

I try to display their yearly photos on their birthday, but this might be the last year I can do that- starting to require too many frames! Sheesh!! And I'm not sure how but I didn't take a picture of Wyatt's newborn year, and Grant's 4th year on display. Ooops!

And of course, I made their cakes! I had a very strong visual in my head how I was hoping these would turn out. And since I'm not a baker by any means, I'm kinda proud with the results! Not professional  in the slightest, but homemade with love, just like I like it!! I spent almost 3 hours the morning of the party decorating them, so I guess you could say labor of love!

I was like a kid at Christmas, anticipating waking up to that 15th day of March! I know the boys were excited too! When I greeted them as they woke up and I sang Happy Birthday to them, they said, "Today is really our birthday?!?" They were so excited! It was a Friday, which means that Grant didn't have school. So we got to take our morning slowly! It started off with birthday pancakes, a yearly tradition. What turns a pancake into a birthday pancake is its made with sprinkles inside, and a candle on top! I sang Happy Birthday to them again, and they blew out their candle!

Then it was on to Birthday Crowns! Grant got a crown from school the day before, when he celebrated his birthday. So, it would be only fair for Wyatt to have one too. So I traced Grant's crown and let Wyatt decorate his own! They proudly sported those crowns for the rest of the afternoon! 

The rest of the morning/afternoon was spent running a few errands and getting party details ready! Daddy got home from work early and took the boys to Cici's Pizza for lunch at Atwoods for a candy treat! They got home in time to get a rest and as soon as they woke up, Mimi and PawPaw were here!!  They brought in the boys' presents, so we went ahead and opened them because what is your actual birthday without opening a present?! Their little faces lit up with excitement as they opened each and every little gift! They were so appreciative! Ninjago stuff, Switch N Go Dino's, and Rescue Bots-what more could a 5 and 3 year old boy ask for?!

After presents, Mimi and PawPaw took the boys to their hotel to go swimming! They had an absolute blast with that, of course!!!

So that was March 15, 2013 in a nutshell! It was a wonderful day celebrating my two favorite little guys in the whole world!! But of course, that night, I was still like a kid on Christmas, awaiting the next morning to see all the party festivities begin....

3 and 5 Year Stats

The boys had their checkup last week to see how big they are! And they sure are growing! Here are last years stats, (and the years before that!) just for comparison. 

Wyatt

Weight: 29 lbs (10-15 percentile)

Height: 35.5 inches (5th percentile)

Still petite, as usual! Maybe he will be like me and grow until he gets to college! His appetite comes and goes, just as you would expect a toddler to be. He's not quite as adventurous with his foods as he once was, and I have his brother to blame for that, but hopefully someday he will be my Chinese food buddy!

Grant

Weight:  40 lbs (44th percentile)

Length: 43 inches (50th percentile)

Not as big as he once was, but he has had steady growth over the years, despite the fact his food choices are still very minimal. However, his appetite seems to grow by the day! Hopefully he doesn't grow too much more before it gets warm out, because his pants collection is getting shorter (literally!) by the day!

I can't even imagine how big you both will be next year! I always tell you to stop growing because I want you to stay little forever! And while thats partly true, I love seeing you grow and change each and every day!

Birthday Boys

Tomorrow, you cute boys, celebrate your 5th and 3rd birthday! What a magical day it will be!! I still can't get over how special it is for you to share a birthday. Ya know, the other day in the car we were talking about miracles and it made me realize what a miracle you each are to Daddy and me. You are the two sweetest, cutest, smartest boys we could have ever asked for!!

We love you and are looking forward to celebrating your big day with you!!

The Clubhouse

Levi has been working his tail off since January to get this clubhouse done! We decided last fall that we wanted to get the boys a clubhouse/swing set for their birthdays. We have the perfect yard, perfect neighborhood for it!! So Levi had it all in his head how it wanted it to look- no drawings, no plans! He scrounged up a few old swing sets and some old fencing on Craigslist and got to work.  Through the rain, the sleet, the snow, and the wind, it came together one piece at a time. I watched it evolve over the last few months and to see what it it is today is AMAZING!!! There is a clubhouse with a secret password window on the door. There is a lookout tower. There are two slides! Two regular swings, a tire swing, and a homemade airplane glider. There are two decks. There is a crawling tunnel. There is a chain ladder. I mean, what more could a play set ask for?!?

The boys and I had our first full afternoon of playing in it today, and they had a blast!! They were spies. They went to Mars. They were ninjas. They were mad scientists. They truly had the best time!  Listening to their ideas just made me smile the whole time!

We are excited to be able to share this with our whole neighborhood and have the "Grand Opening" ceremony this weekend at the boys' birthday party!! 

I can only imagine the hours of fun this clubhouse will bring!!

Cuddles Best Friend

I gave Cuddles to Grant when he was a year old and preparing for becoming a big brother. Cuddles was my favorite since I was about 6 years old. I never imagined Cuddles would become such a favorite for Grant too. But Grant might even love Cuddles more than I did- he takes him everywhere and snuggles with him ALL THE TIME! He talks to him (and Cuddles talks back!). He feeds him. It really is the sweetest. 

I had made the comment a few months ago that Grant was kind of like Cuddle's Daddy because he loves him and takes good care of him. Well, part of Grant's routine every morning is waking up and finding Cuddles, Little Cold, Dolphie, and Pup and bringing them to his red chair in the playroom before he goes potty and gets changed. Once he's changed, he eats breakfast as quickly as possible, and then climbs in his red chair to snuggle his friends before leaving for school. 

The other day before leaving for school, Grant ran back into the playroom as we were walking out the door. I heard him say, "Daddy's going to work. Be good while I'm gone. I love you!"  It might have been the sweetest thing ever. Then, while we were driving to school, he was telling me all the things to do to take care of Cuddles- I need to let him watch a show, give him a snack, and make him a fighter jet with Legos. And if he's starts getting fussy, I need to make him take a nap. (Again, sweetest thing ever!)

So when I come home, I went to grab Cuddles so I could take care of him and I found him, just as Grant had set them before he left....

I am so in love my boy and his sweet and gentle heart!!

February Artwork

With the 5 days that Grant was in school the month of February, I'm surprised I have anything to blog about in the artwork category. I guess most of these are just part of their curriculum work, but artwork nonetheless. Grant went to school during two weeks of February- N week and P week, and of course- the Valentine's Day party. 

Starting at the top left, Grant colored a squirrel holding a nut. Inside the nut are different N pictures. Then he colored a nest one morning during free color. I just like how you can see his name he wrote. It's a work in progress for sure, getting him to write his name well, but he's coming along slowly.

At the bottom, Grant colored a pocket. On the back, he colored all the P pictures he could find. The middle heart was supposed to be a sewing-type activity where he wound the yarn around the heart. Apparently he inherited my sewing skills...sorry Mimi!! And last but not least was this horse. I have no idea where that fit into the scheme of things, but its a darn cute horse!

I hope March will bring us many more colorful pieces of artwork!
